摘要 PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To make it possible to execute optical amplification and wavelength dispersion compensation of signal light while maintaining the quality of a light signal by setting the ambient temp. of a wavelength dispersion compensation optical fiber at a specific temp. SOLUTION: This device has openings for ventilation at its bottom plate and top plate and houses a wavelength dispersion compensation module 100, an optical amplifier module 200 and a thermal insulating module 300. The ambient temp. of a casing 400 is set nearly at a temp. T0 . The thickness of the thermal insulating member 310 and the size of the openings for ventilation of the casing 400 are so set that the temp. T on the periphery of the wavelength dispersion compensation module 100 satisfies the equation T-T0 <=(ΔM)MX /(L.(a.αOH+b)) according to the calorific value at the optical amplifier module 200. In the equation, (ΔW)MX is the permissible max. value of the difference from a light loss quantity at the reference service temp. T0 ; L is the length of the wavelength dispersion compensation optical fiber, (a), (b) are the constants determined by the kinds of the wavelength dispersion compensation optical fiber,αOH is the light absorptivity per unit length relating to the light of a wavelength of 1.39μm by a hydroxyl group at the reference service temp. T0 .
