PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a mechanism for controlling the ink duty of an ink jet printer on-line. SOLUTION: An ink jet printer driver uses a concn. dot type dither generating a binary image signal showing an image adjusted to an ink duty limit to be imposed in order to prevent the bleeding caused by the kind of a predetermined medium. In an image value considered to generate ink duty exceeding the limit without performing adjustment, there is an image value actually reduced to a degree necessary for the coincidence with the ink duty limit. As a result, an obtained adjusting value becomes the increase function of an unadjusted value even with respect to an unadjusted value exceeding the ink duty limit. In order to impose the limit, Bayer dither processing 94 receives the input showing a ratio of ink limit adjusted ink duty and unadjusted ink duty. Gate operation 96 permits the demand of ink only at a position showing that ink is permitted by both dither processings 92, 94.
