PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To form a low resistance electrode and a flat interface between a liquid crystal and a substrate and to enable good display of a moving image with high contrast, high definition and high brightness by holding a specified liquid crystal compsn. between a pair of wiring substrates and constituting at least one wiring substrate of a light-transmitting base body, plural electrodes of a main electrode and subelectrodes, and an insulating layer between subelectrodes. SOLUTION: This element consists of a pair of electrode substrates and a liquid crystal compsn. 2 between the substrates. The substrates consist of light-transmitting base bodies 1a, 1b on which plural subelectrode 3a, 3b are formed in a pattern. The main electrodes 5a, 5b are formed on the subelectrodes and electrically connected. An insulating layer (4a) 4b is formed to fill the space between the subelectrodes 3a, 3b. The liquid crystal compsn. 2 contains a fluorine-contg. liquid crystal compd. having a fluorocarbon molecular end and a hydrocarbon molecular end with both ends bonded by a center ring and showing a smectic intermediate phase or latent smectic intermediate phase. |
