PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an automatic transaction device capable of correctly detecting residual paper money inside a housing part. SOLUTION: At a back-up 310 provided freely movable up and down in the housing part 20, a long transmitted hole having a long hole shape is formed over from its one end side to another end side. An empty detecting sensor 320 for detecting the presence of paper money on the back-up 310 has a light emitting element 320a and a light receiving element 320b, and disposed so that the light emitted from the light emitting element 320a enters into the light receiving element 320b through the transmitted hole of the back-up 310 in the state where the emitted light is inclined in the moving direction of the back-up 310. The empty detecting sensor 320 detects the presence of paper money on the back-up 310 over from one end side to another end side of the back-up 310 accompanying the movement of the back-up 310.
