PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a KARAOKE sing-along machine capable of preventing the mismatch of a KARAOKE sing-along music piece and a background image even if the genre of the selected KARAOKE sing-along music piece is a special field, such as animation system. SOLUTION: A CPU section 7 stores the KARAOKE sing-along music piece inputted as the music to be reproduced from the remote control of an optical section 12 in a playing music information memory section 15 and outputs background video signals from an external video reproducing device 2 to an illustration video forming section 16 in accordance with the genre information of the KARAOKE sing-along music piece. If the KARAOKE sing-along genre is particularly the case of the animation system or the like, the CPU section 7 instructs the illustration video forming section 16 to convert the background video signals to illustration video signals and to output these signals to a superimposing section 9. This superimposing section 9 synthesizes the text videos corresponding to the KARAOKE sing-along music piece with the background video signals and displays the videos on a video display section 3.
