PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To check the generation and discharge of sulfate by using the oxide sol of TiO2 sol etc., in the production of a catalyst by a method in which a coat layer is formed by sticking a mixture of zeolite power and a binder on the surface of a backing, and catalytic noble metal is supported on the coat layer. SOLUTION: The production of a catalyst for cleaning exhaust gas which cleaning exhaust gas from an internal combustion engine includes the first process in which a mixture of zeolite power and a binder is stuck on the surface of a monolithic carrier backing to form a coat layer and the second process in which catalytic noble metal is carried on the coat layer. In this process, a kind of oxide sol selected from TiO2 sol, ZrO2 sol, and CeO2 sol is used as the binder. By using the oxide sol, the support of the catalytic noble metal on oxide produced from the oxide sol is checked, and SO2 is discharged almost without being oxidized so that not only the generation of sulfate can be controlled but also the generation of white smoke can be prevented. |
