PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a silica porous material that requires a small number of solid-phase manufacturing processes and that is excellent in separation performance and a separating method that uses the same and an opposite-phase chromatograph. SOLUTION: A silica porous material for use as the stationary phase of an opposite-phase chromatograph has a hydrophobic surface, whose central pore diameter is in the range 1 to 10nm. The total capacity of pores with diameters ranging within±2.5nm of the central pore diameter is 60 to 100% of the capacity of all pores. The silica porous material has the hydrophobic surface and preferably has one or more peaks at the position of diffraction angle (2θ) at which a (d) value corresponds to 1nm or more at X-ray diffraction. A polar solvent is preferably used as the moving phase.
