PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To easily obtain the subject compound useful as a liquid crystal compound through a few process steps in an industrially advantageous way. SOLUTION: This compound, which is shown by formula I (R<1> is a 1-10C alkyl; R<2> is H, F, CL, cyano, thiocyano, a 1-10C alkyl, etc.; ring A and ring B are each a group of formula II, etc.; X<1> and X<2> are each H, F, Cl, etc.; (m) is 0 or 1), is obtained by reaction of a compound of formula II with oxalic chloride in the presence of a Lewis acid (e.g. anhydrous aluminum chloride) followed by reaction of the product with a compound of formula III in the presence of a basic compound (e.g. pyridine). |
