<p>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve the transfer of a toner image of especially fine toner grains by moving a donor surface and a receiver surface so as to perform the transfer therebetween, while actively cooling the doner surface to the receiver surface. SOLUTION: A TECD(thermoelectric controll device) strip of a backup roller 28 is set to always cool an image member 21, whenever the strip enters a transfer nip 30, during operation. By this cooling the whole of the device is prevented from heating toner. Therefore, a surface 29 as 'the doner surface' is kept in a cooled state, while the toner image is first transferred to a surface 39. For further accelerating the transfer, the surface 39 can be slightly heated by the TECD of an intermediate transfer member. Thus, the toner is attracted to the surface 39 of the receiver surface, that is, an adapter surface and a temperature gradient for reducing sticking of toner to the donor surface, that is, the surface 29, is formed in the nip 30.</p> |
