PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To display a fine gray scale while preventing a flicker from being generated with a simple circuit constitution. SOLUTION: A picture output device such as display, light valve and the like has cells, and each cell has an electrooptical element and a switching element. During a scanning signal in a scanning line 130 is in a selection period, the eletrooptical element is electrically connected to a data line 132 by the switching element to receive a data signal from the line 132. A scan driving 106 supplies a scanning signal having a scanning frequency of at least K multiple of the smaller frequency of either the maximum response of the electro-optic element or the maximum sensable frequency of an ordinary observer. K is equal to or larger than 8. A data driving circuit 108 receives a digital input signal and supplies a signal segment of either the maximum voltage or the minimum voltage according to the signal. The electro-optic elements receive either the roughly maximum voltages or the roughly minimum voltages in respective selection periods to obtain time averages and realize consecutive displays of gray levels in which a flicker is not present with an arbitrary K. |
