PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a method in which the charging operation of one or more batteries can be balanced by a method wherein the actual or estimated self- discharge rate of every battery is decided and both ends of one or more batteries are shunted so as to generate a shunt current which compensates the difference in the self-discharge rate between the batteries at least partially. SOLUTION: A central controller 30 commands respective module control units 26A, 26G,..., 26n to shunt their currents in a proper quantity through their resistors 60 and their microprocessor outputs 62 so that self-discharge rates of respective batteries 20A, 20B,..., 20n become equal. It is not required to shunt the current of the battery having a highest self-discharge rate. However, it is required to shunt the currents, in sequentially larger quantities, of the batteries having lower self-discharge rates so that the self-discharge rates become equal. |
