PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a battery separator suited as the separator for a battery, which can attain improvement of a battery life, prevention of battery internal short circuit, suppression of a rise of internal resistance, improvement of battery capacity and taking out of a stable discharge current by increasing liquid absorbing power and holding power of an electrolyte to be excellent in separability, alkali resistance and strength with a low degree of swelling relating to the electrolyte, particularly as the separator for a mercury non-additive alkaline battery and the battery provided with this separator. SOLUTION: In a fiber cross section, a sea island type structural fiber having a phase structure, dispersing an island component (dispersion component) composed of water insoluble cellulose system polymer in a sea component (dispersion medium component) composed of vinyl alcohol system polymer, is fibrilation processed. A fibrilaion object thus obtained is used at least as one part, this separator is provided in a battery. |
