PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a nonaqueous electrolyte secondary battery in which deposition of needle crystals on the surface of an electrode accompanying charge/ discharge is retarded by using a lithium - silicon oxide represented by a specific formula in a negative electrode. SOLUTION: A nonaqueous electrolyte secondary battery comprises a nonaqueous electrolyte, a positive electrode, and a negative electrode using a lithium - silicon oxide represented by a general formula of Lix MSi2 O7 (2<=x<=4, M is at least one of V, Mn, and Cr). The lithium - silicon oxide using Mn and Cr is prepared in such a way that lithium oxide and silicon dioxide of a stoichiometric composition ratio, and Cr3 O4 and/or Mn3 O4 of the required amount are put in a ceramic container, and they are melted at about 950 deg.C under the flow of a mixture gas of argon gas and about 10% oxygen. When V is doped, a composite oxide of Si and V is prepared, lithium oxide is mixed to the silicon - vanadium composite oxide, then the similar process is applied. The nonaqueous electrolyte secondary battery with high capacity is obtained. |
