A method for preparing a composite nanoparticle, and a composite nanoparticle prepared by the method are provided to improve the stability of the prepared particles and to minimize the time and energy required for the preparation of seed particles. A method for preparing a composite nanoparticle comprises the steps of preparing a seed ultrafine particle miniemulsion comprising a compound generating gas and/or a free radical by pyrolysis, an ultrahydrophobe, an emulsifier and an organic solvent; and adding a monomer for the formation of polymer to the seed ultrafine particle miniemulsion and emulsion polymerizing the monomer by using the seed ultrafine particle miniemulsion as a seed to obtain a composite nanoparticle which comprises the compound generating gas and/or a free radical by pyrolysis dispersed in a polymer matrix or phase separated from a polymer shell.
