PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve the electromagnetic transducing characteristic and the traveling durability of a magnetic recording medium having a magnetic layer using one slurried by previously dispersing an abrasive in a binder and a solvent. SOLUTION: In the magnetic recording medium formed by laminating successively a non-magnetic layer 2 formed from a non-magnetic coating material containing a non-magnetic powder and a magnetic layer 3 formed from a magnetic coating material containing a ferromagnetic powder, the binder and the solvent on a non-magnetic supporting body 1, one obtained by dispersing an abrasive slurry containing the abrasive, a part of the binder and a part of the solvent in a mixture consisting of the ferromagnetic powder, the remaining binder and the remaining solvent is used as the magnetic coating material and an inorganic particle having <0.1μm average primary particle diameter and <0.20μm center particle diameter of the secondary particle of the abrasive in the abrasive slurry is used as the abrasive.
