The packaging material blank, designed to be scored and folded to make a package for containing food products such as sea foods, is made from several layers (1,2A,2B,3,4) of increasing impermeability to water from the outside of the package to the inside. An outer layer of slightly impermeable and printable paper (1) is backed by a layer (2A) of recycled grey card which is treated to make it moderately impermeable. This is followed by a second layer (2B) of greasy card, attached to the first by a coating of adhesive (4), and an inner layer (3) of an impermeable food-grade thermoplastic such as polyethylene, attached to the second layer of card by extrusion and used to weld the seams of the assembled package.
