PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent racing of an engine by lowering release side operating fluid pressure to the specified pressure at the instant of lapse of optional time after a shift command during transmission so as to start torque phase, and building up the specified pressure when the slip of a release side friction element is generated before the start of torque phase. SOLUTION: The selected gear stage of an automatic transmission 2 is determined by the on-off combination of shift solenoids 6-8 under the control of a controller 9. The controller 9 inputs output signals of an engine rotation sensor 11, input and output shaft rotation sensors 12, 13, an oil temperature sensor 14, and the like and executes a control program to perform transmission control. In this case, at the instant of lapse of optional time after a shift command, release side operating fluid pressure is lowered to the specified pressure determined aiming at the state of a release side friction element being immediately before a slip, and torque phase is thereby started. When the slip of the release side friction element is generated before the start of torque phase, it is so controlled as to build up the specified pressure. |
