The present invention relates to electronic alarm systems to be placed at on-duty staff workplaces and is intended to control the capacity for work and execution discipline of the on-duty staff and to duly notify a control center thereabout. According to the present invention, in an apparatus to be placed at a guarded object and connected to a telephone line, repetitively, with randomly selected time intervals within pre-determined time limits, which may vary from 5 to 90 minutes, to draw the on-duty staff attention, a light signal is given, which can be cut off by activating a cut-off means (means for cutting off the challenge signaling), the cutting-off being possible within a preset first time interval, preferably selected from the scope of from 5 seconds to 5 minutes, and in case of failure to cut off the light signal within the first time interval, in addition to the light signal, a sound signal is given which can be cut off by activating the cut-off means, the cutting-off being possible within a preset second time interval, preferably selected from the scope of from 5 seconds to 5 minutes, an alarm signal being transmitted through the telephone line to one or more control centers in case of failure to cut off the challenge signaling within the second time interval. - 19 -
