PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a magnetic recording medium excellent in electromagnetic transducing characteristic and durability and to provide the magnetic recording medium suitable for high density recording and reproducing and capable of sufficiently satisfying the traveling durability by improving the dispersibility of a fine particle magnetic body, carbon black and an abrasive compound. SOLUTION: In the magnetic recording medium provided with a magnetic layer formed by dispersing a ferromagnetic powder in a binder on a non- magnetic supporting body or the magnetic recording medium further provided with an under coating layer containing an inorganic powder and a binder between the magnetic layer and the non-magnetic supporting body, at least one of the binder in the magnetic layer and the binder in the under coating layer is a polyurethane resin having a annular structure and containing ether group, the magnetic layer contains at least the polyurethane resin, the average agglomerate diameter of carbon black contained in the magnetic layer is controlled to 40-300nm and the particle diameter of the abrasive contained in the magnetic layer is controlled to 0.05-0.5μm.
