<p>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a rotary kiln for heating metal scrap and a heating method of the metal scrap which can heat the metal scrap with a high thermal efficiency and at an excellent yield rate without fusing of the metal scrap on the inner wall surface of the rotary kiln, on the lower end side of the kiln, on the occasion when the metal scrap is heated, in the rotary kiln, in a state of counterflow against the exhaust gas from a melting furnace. SOLUTION: A rotary kiln 1 of which the thickness of the inner wall surface in one or both end part areas on the side of the lower end 3 or the upper end 2 thereof is decreased continuously toward the lower end and/or the upper end from the central point 5 of the major axis 4 of the kiln over a prescribed extent in the direction of the major axis 4 so that the inside diameter of the section of the kiln be enlarged like a horn, is used. Thereby the moving velocity VS of metal scrap in a prescribed area on the upper end 2 side in the direction of the major axis 4 of the rotary kiln 1 is made smaller than the moving velocity VE of the metal scrap in a prescribed area on the lower end 3 side in the direction of the major axis 4 of the kiln.</p> |
