The supercharger has a turbocompressor (5) with a turbine (4) driven by the exhaust gases. the turbine has an inlet orifice (43) for the exhaust gases and an outlet orifice (48) connected to an exhaust catalytic convertor (8). A discharge circuit (10) limits the quantity of exhaust gas passing into the turbine. The discharge circuit cooperates with the distributors (31) which close the inlet to the turbine under preset conditions of engine functioning. The complete exhaust gas flow is then guided across the discharge circuit. The distributors are controlled for selective movement in which the turbine inlet is closed and the discharge opening is open and a reverse position.
