Pyrotechnical ignition device control method for motor vehicle airbag gas generator

The method involves feeding an ignition voltage (Uzund) to a pyrotechnical ignition unit (1) via a switching element (S) from an autonomous capacitor (C) parallel to the voltage supply (UB). Immediately after ignition of the unit the switching element returns to the open, non-conducting state. The potential drop across the capacitor is used to determine the time at which the switching element is driven into the open state.
