Wireless data communication apparatus for ATM network

The apparatus includes a fixed base station (3) with a data transmitter (10) and receiver (24) with a base field of view. At least one mobile station (14,15) is movable within a mobile region and includes a transmitter and receiver with a mobile field of view. The base and mobile stations exchange modulated data signals. The stations fields of view are aligned using a detector unit. Each base station's transmitter and receiver has a base field of view detecting the mobile field of view. The mobile transmitter (17,19) and receiver (16,18) have smaller fields of view than the base station. A detector unit detects the position of the mobile station with respect to the base station and a controller aligns the mobile field of view with the base station.
