The pump has radial flow passages (33) built into the outer ring (30) interconnecting the impeller blades and connects the blade chambers (31) to the radial gap (32) bounded by the outer ring and peripheral wall (14) of the pump casing. The flow passages run in the symmetry plane of the outer ring, and in a radial plane parallel to the symmetry plane. A side channel is provided in each side wall, with the start of one side channel communicating with the pump inlet and the end of the other communicating with the pump outlet.
