Vehicle control device e.g. for controlling automatic transmission gear ratio

The control system determines the position of the vehicle on the road and anticipates the road ahead eg. cross-roads, traffic lights, bends etc. The speed of the vehicle and the setting of the automatic transmission are added to the road data to set the automatic transmission to the optimum ratio in anticipation of the road conditions ahead of the vehicle. The control can also slow the vehicle ahead of set road conditions and can activate the direction flashers. The system can be used for fixed ratio automatic transmissions or for CVT types.
