The steering column is adjustable and includes steering shaft, a steering column casing 2 and a fixing device acting with a holder fixed to the bodywork and having at least one pack of sheets fixed to the casing. The steering column casing consists of a one-piece component with longitudinal apertures (4,5). The pack of sheets (6,7) is fitted in at least one of these apertures. The steering column casing may be made from an extruded aluminium strip.
