The sliding or tilting sunroof cover (2) fits in an aperture in the roof (1) and has a compressible edge gap seal (8) at least in the front edge region. The front edge of the cover is held by a spacer (17) at a spacing from the edge of the roof aperture so that the edge gap seal is only compressed for a set extent (X). The spacer may be below the edge gap seal and/or fitted to the front edge of the cover. It may be formed by at least one stop projecting from the front edge of the cover. This stop may extend along the entire front edge.
