Flexible plate for absorbing vibrations from flywheel fixture

The flywheel (5) is fixed to part of the flexible plate (4) which possesses anisotropic flexural strength. At least part of the flywheel fixture part is integrated with a middle part for fixing to an engine crank shaft (3). The crank shaft and the middle part define a central axle on which the flexible plate and crank shaft turn, and have an intermediate part (4d) between them causing greater flexural strength round the first axle than round the second axle. Through-holes (8) in the flywheel fixture part are spaced peripherally apart to reduce the flexural strength round the second axle.
