The invention concerns a speech-processing system which comprises an optional number of speech-recognition modules (Ei, i = 1..n) and speech-output modules (Aj, j = 1..m). Depending on the application, the modules, which are each provided for a given type of speech recognition or speech output, are selected, activated and parametrized by a module-selection device (MA) as a function of an input signal (ES), such that the selected modules are used according to their respective configuration for speech-recognition or speech-output purposes.
