A variable flow gas turbine engine (50) has, in axial flow relationship, a fan assembly (52), a core engine (54), and an exhaust assembly (58). The core engine (54) includes a compressor (62), a combustor (64), a high pressure turbine (66), and a first shaft (70) interconnecting the compressor (62) and high pressure turbine (66). The fan assembly (52) is connected to a low pressure turbine (69) by a second shaft (72) which is coaxial with the first shaft (70). The fan assembly (52) includes a plurality of variable pitch inlet guide vanes (88), variable pitch stator vanes (90), and variable pitch outlet guide vanes (92), the pitch of which are adjusted to regulate airflow through the gas turbine engine (50) and the pressure ratio across the fan assembly (52) as controlled by the exhaust assembly (58). |
