The filter unit (10) is attached to a pump for supplying fuel especially to an internal combustion engine. A star-shaped or radial filter (12) is accommodated in a housing (11) with concentric cylindrical inner (16) and outer (17) walls. Fuel flows in through a first nipple (22) at the top of the unit. The fuel enters a chamber (29) with a curved wall (25) separating it from an outlet chamber (31) with the fuel flowing out through a second nipple (23). The inlet chamber is in communication with the outer diameter (33) of the filter and the outlet chamber is in communication with the inner diameter (36) of the filter. There is a central space (13) with a drain (42) at the bottom.
