At least one shell half (2,3) of the manifold has brackets (10) protruding at the side or sections upon which are fastened mountings (8) for the guard plate (7) or the guard plate itself by a conventional method of joining. The brackets have threads, threaded bushes or bolts for fitting of the mounting or guard plate, and the mounting is similarly equipped for fitting of the guard plate. The mounting or the guard plate can be joined to the brackets in one stage of the moulding process, and then the shell halves are welded together.
