The vibration device has two vibrating elements with a clearance between them and between which in the rest position an air gap is present. The detection device has a proximity switch which detects whether a minimum clearance (s0) differing from zero, which one of the two elements assumes in the reset position, is exceeded or reduced. Allowing for the time between the instant when the clearance exceeds or falls below the minimum and the period (1/f) of the vibration the vibration amplitude (s) is determined.
