The optimising performance of mixers for bulk materials with water addition. These typically prepare concrete, foundry sand or sand-lime compositions in quantity. In the new method, a continuous electrical discharge is produced in the material during mixing, by a high frequency generator. The electrical resistance of the mixture is measured constantly during the entire process. To this end, rod electrodes are immersed in the material. Further wall and base electrodes used, are insulated from the mixer casing. Analogue resistance values are measured and converted into digital form. The results are displayed and recorded as a graph of resistances against time, using a personal computer. This is compared with standard curves stored in the computer. Also claimed is a system to carry out the optimisation.
