Optical component protection device

The device has light, sound or temp. sensitive detector which receives a signal when the optical component starts to be damaged by electromagnetic radiation. The signal is used to switch off the electromagnetic radiation incident on the optical components with the aid of an electronic evaluation circuit (6). The optical component is a non-linear crystal (3) which is used for frequency conversion of laser radiation. A light sensitive detector of the stray light from a damaged area receives the fundamental and/or frequency converted radiation.
