A fuel injection device suitable for use in diesel engines, comprising a first accumulator (3) for storing a high pressure fuel, a second accumulator (4) for storing a much lower pressure fuel than the fuel in the first accumulator (3), a first two-way solenoid valve (5) provided on a fuel passage (10a) connecting the first accumulator (3) with a fuel injection nozzle (9), flow rate control means (30) provided on a fuel passage (10b) connecting the fuel passage (10a) downstream of the first two-way solenoid valve (5) with the second accumulator (4), for controlling the flow rate of a fuel flowing in the fuel passage (106), a second two-way solenoid valve (7) provided on a fuel return passage (10c) for communication between the fuel injection nozzle (9) and a fuel tank (17) to switch a fuel injection state between injection and non-injection, and control means (8) for controlling opening and closing of the first two-way solenoid valve (5) and the second two-way solenoid valve (7) in accordance with an operating condition of the engine.
