A used glass collection container has sidewalls (2) and an open inlet (1) through which empty bottles or jars are dropped into an entry shaft (4). One or more of the container sides each have a second inner wall forming a sound-deadening cavity (3) between the outer and inner walls. The inner walls also limit the inlet shaft. The width (a) of the inlet shaft is about the same as that of the open inlet. The distance from the inlet to the bottom of the inlet shaft is approximately the same from every one of several inlets.
