A hinge assembly for the door of a domestic appliance, such as an oven, comprises an upper hinge 2a, 4 and a lower hinge 3a, 5. The upper hinge comprises a first part 2a attached to the body of the appliance and a second part 4 attached to the door 1. The second part 4 is mounted so that it is capable of sliding movement relative to the door 1 against the action of a spring 8. The arrangement is such that if the extreme end of the door 1 is depressed when the door is fully open the door will tilt relative to the body without the body of the appliance being tilted. The resilience of the spring 8 returns the door to its normal position when the force acting on the end of the door has been removed. <IMAGE> |
