PURPOSE:To excavate a tunnel efficiently by arranging vertical cutters supported rotatably on a rectangular shield frame, on the front side of the bulk head of the rectangular shield frame, and cutter driving gears on the rear side. CONSTITUTION:On the front side of the bulk head 2 of a rectangular shield frame 1 having a rectangular cross-sectional area, vertical shaft cutters having a rotary shaft 4 in the direction orthogonal to the axial core of the rectangular shield frame 1, and a multi-stage cutter edge 10 fixed on the rotary shaft 4 are arranged to be rotatably supported on the rectangular shield frame 1. After that, cutter driving gears 14, 14' for driving the rotation of the vertical shaft cutters 3, 3' are arranged on the rear side of the bulk head 2. Then, in a state that the vertical shaft cutters 3, 3' are accommodated to the rectangular cross- sectional area of the rectangular shield frame 1, excavation can be efficiently performed. |
