An infant incubator comprises a hood 10 having one or more access doors 12, a base 16 upon which the hood is mounted and having a deck 18 enclosed by the hood and with openings 24, 26, 28 by which air enters and leaves the enclosure. The temperature and speed of the air flow is provided by a fan 36 and a heater 32 within the base and controlled in response to a variety of sensing means. A magnetic reed switch 42 mounted to the base and a magnet 40 attached to the access door detect opening of the door through a predetermined amount and are linked to controlling means 48 and 50 for increasing the heat and the speed of the fan. Other sensors 44, 46 and 52 are provided for respectively the temperature within the incubator, the temperature of the skin of the infant and the ambient temperature outside the incubator and are also linked to the controlling means for the fan and heater. An alarm control 54 is additionally provided. |
