PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To ensure material characteristics excellent in fracture toughness against the initial cracking of the surface of parts even when SiC formed by reactive sintering is applied as a matrix material. SOLUTION: A ceramic-base fiber composite material is composed of a matrix 1 of ceramics contg. SiC as the principal phase formed by reactive sintering and fibers 2 of ceramics contg. SiC as the principal phase made composite in the matrix 1. An interfacial layer (BN layer) is disposed between each of the fibers 2 and the matrix 1. The fibers 2 are more uniformly distributed in the surface layer part F2 of the material including at least a part of the surface of the material than in the interior F1 of the material. |
