An opening and closing device is provided to improve the impact absorbing performance and to increase the working distance of a cushioning unit. An opening and closing device comprises: a pair of supporting frame(10) separately placed; a cylinder(20) moving within the supporting frame to the longitudinal direction; a door movable unit(50) in which one side is connected to an auto door(1); and a translation distance extension unit(60) partly combined in the cylinder and the door movable unit. The door movable unit moves along with the auto door. The translation distance extension unit extends the translation distance of the door movable unit when the cylinder moves. The translation distance extension unit comprises: a sprocket(61) formed in the one end of the cylinder; and a chain(62) whose one end is connected to the support frame and the other end is to the door movable unit.
