MANUFACTURE OF LITHIUM METAL FOIL OR LITHIUM ALLOY FOIL

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To manufacture a thin lithium alloy foil or a thin lithium metal foil by using a roll whose surface has the composition of the solid polymer, and applying the organic solvent for lithium cell to the roll or a raw material foil. SOLUTION: A raw material foil of the thickness optimum for the roll forming of the lithium metal or lithium alloy into a foil is manufactured by the extrusion. Cold rolling is performed using a roll having a surface made of the solid polymer composition such as polypropylene and vinyl chloride. The organic solvent for lithium cell such as propylene carbonate is applied to at least one of the roll surface or the raw material foil surface as the lubricant. In some method, the lubricant is applied to the roll surface by bringing the application material such as sponge in contact with the roll surface in a holding manner so as to keep the roll surface in a constantly wet condition. Very thin lithium metal foil or lithium alloy foil which can not be manufactured by the extrusion method can be manufactured thereby.
