Paints or lacquers comprising aqueous dispersions of polymers contain up to 65 (50) wt.% silica particles up to 150 (100) nm in size, with respect to the dry substance content. - Preferably the surfaces of the silica particles are modified with aluminium to provide up to 1.5 (0.2-0.6) part aluminium silicate per nm2 particle surface area.
