<p>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent rolling troubles (for example, drawing accident due to tension floating) generated at the time of rolling the steep part of variation in thickness with a cold rolling mill. SOLUTION: This method is a cold rolling method for rolling a metal plate 11 into a desired thickness with the cold rolling mill 15 while pickling the plate in a pickling tank 13 and a thickness measuring meter 17 is provided at a distance of not less than a prescribed metal plate stoppable length S1 obtained by v<2> /(2.α0 ) along the metal plate 11 from the inlet of the cold rolling mill 15 to the side of the pickling tank 13 on the outlet side of the pickling tank 13. Thus, the thickness of the metal plate 11 which is passed through the thickness measuring meter 17 is measured and, and by detecting the variation in thickness due to overpickling, the cold rolling mill 15 is controlled.
