PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To enable efficient preparation of the (S)- or (R)-subject compound by allowing a specific microorganism or its treatment product to act on a 1,2-propanediol-1-tosylate enantiomer mixture. SOLUTION: A microorganism which acts on a 1,2-propanediol-1-tosylate enantiomer mixture to leave its S- or R-isomer (for example, Rhodococcus rhodochrous ATCC19140, Brevibacterium acetylicum IAM 1790 or the like) is allowed to act on the above-described enantiomer mixture and the remaining S- or R-isomer is collected. The microbial reaction is preferably carried out at a pH of 5-7 and a temperature of 15-40 deg.C for 12-72 hours. the enantiomer remaining in the reaction mixture is readily collected by extraction thereof with an organic solvent such as ethyl acetate or dichloromethane. |
