PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain the subject catalyst component enabling the (co) polymerization of an olefin in high polymerization activity by imparting specific physical properties to a catalyst component containing Ti, Mg, and a halogen as essential components. SOLUTION: This solid titanium catalyst component contains Ti, Mg and a halogen as essential components. Therein, fine crystal sizes calculated from the peak of the face (110) by the X-ray diffraction of a magnesium halide forming the catalyst component are 3-100Å. The total volume of fine pores having radii of <=0.1μm in the catalyst component is <=0.20cm<3> /g, and the total volume of fine pores having radii of 0.1-7.5μm is >=0.30cm<3> /g. The average particle diameter measured by a light transmission sedimentation method is 0.5-80μm. The catalyst component enables the (co)polymerization of an olefin in high polymerization activity. When a >=3Cα-olefin is polymerized, an olefin (co)polymer high in stereoregularity is obtained.
