PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a lens for eye excellent in transparency, resistance to heat and to lipid contamination and surface-wetting properties by treating a lens material for eye made of a copolymer formed by copolymerizing a copolymerizing component containing glucofuranose derivative. SOLUTION: This lens is obtained by treating a lens material for eye made of a copolymer prepared by copolymerizing (A) a glucofuranose derivative of the formula (R<1> is p-phenylene, m-phenylene, -O-; n is an integer of 1-3), (B) a monomer copolymerizable with the component (A) and (C) a cross-linkable monomer with an acid. This acid treatment is carried out in order to convert the ketal groups to hydroxyl groups in the copolymer thereby making the material hydrophilic. Thus, the lens manifests excellent machinability with excellent resistance to lipid staining, in addition, in case of a water-containing eye lens, it shows the moisture retention in the lens and the excellent lens surface wettability. |
