alpha -Amino acid amides of formula NRR'-CHR1-CONHR2 (I) are new. R = alkyl (optionally substituted by cycloalkyl or aryl (optionally substituted by alkyl, halo or haloalkyl), or optionally fused or aryl (optionally substituted by alkyl, alkoxy, halo or haloalkyl); R' = H, alkyl, phenyl or phenylalkyl; R1 = optionally acylated 1-4C hydroxyalkyl or phenylalkyl, and when R is aryl, then R1 may also be H or 1-4C alkyl; R2 = H, alkyl phenyl or phenylalkyl.
