PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a highly active supported catalyst system by mixing a metallocene component, a cocatalyst component, and modified inorganic oxide of silicon, aluminum, or their mixtures and using organic silicon groups containing nitrogen, fluorine, phosphorus, or sulfur for the modified inorganic oxide. SOLUTION: In a highly active supported catalyst system to be advantageously used for polymerizing olefins, the catalyst system is produced by mixing a metallocene component with a cocatalyst component, and a modified inorganic oxide of silicon, aluminum, or their mixtures. The modified inorganic oxide contains organic silicon groups containing nitrogen, fluorine, phosphorus, or sulfur and preferably includes identical or different groups having the formula; -SiRn wherein R stands for 1-20C alkyl, 1-20C alkoxy group, 1-20C alkoxyalkyl group, 5-30C alkylaryloxy group, or 5-30C arylalkyl group.
